- Introduction

-
- For those of you not fortunate to have a multi-scan monitor and left with
- Mode 12 then you can also have the 3d gadgets on your windows. Almost all
- of the previous gadgets were designed for Mode 22 (a5000 owners) but these
- gadgets will work on older a310/410 machines.
-
- To get the gadgets onto your desktop...
-
- 1. Open the Root directory of your boot hard disk drive.
-
- 2. Rename any existing desktop !Boot file to !DeskBoot
-
- 3. Open the '3dGadgets' archive with !Spark or !ArcFS.
-
- 4. Copy archive 'Resource' directory to the Root directory of your hard
- disk.
-
- 5. Copy archive '!Boot' file to the Root directory of your hard disk.
-
- 6. Now Ctrl-Break reset machine. (Make sure you've saved all your work
- first!)
-
- 7. When your desktop reappears you should have nice 3d borders to your
- windows, if not...
-
- 8. Look at the command file '!Config' in the 3dGadget archive. This
- will change some of the CMOS configuration of your machine. This is
- required to make your hard drive bootable and to make the desktop
- wait until the !Boot file has been run.
-
- Namely:
-
- Configure Language 0
- Configure Boot
- Configure FileSystem ADFS
- Configure Drive 4
- ADFS
- Mount 4
- Opt 4,2
-
- [You may need to edit this to change to your type of file system
- (ie. IDEFS etc)]
-
- Run the !Config command file and Ctrl-Break reset machine and when
- your desktop reappears...
-
-
- This new !Boot redirects the WindowManagers path to the new icon definitions
- before the desktop starts up. You can later change the location of the
- Resources directory to somewhere under !System if you wish, by altering the
- WindowManager$Path.
-
- The 3d gadgets redefine the windows back, close, size toggle, title bar,
- horizontal and vertical scroll bars and arrow and the resize gadget. Also
- these gadgets change to a depressed gadget when you use them. Also all the
- menus have 3d title bars. The actual graphics inside the gadgets are
- largely unchanged but these can to redrawn to anything you like.
-
- I would like to thank the other 3d iconiers, as I was able to unearth how
- to do this with there versions (as I dont have the RO3 PRMS yet) and would
- like to encourage other informed RO3'ers to start distributing their 'Hints
- n tips' for RO3 (as there are many more I'm sure).
